Porsche Story of the Month: The Story Behind the Porsche Crest
The Porsche crest is one of the most recognisable emblems in the automotive world but every detail has a meaning.
Introduced in 1952, the crest combines elements from both the city of Stuttgart and the historic state of Württemberg in Germany, where Porsche originated. The black horse at the centre comes from Stuttgart’s coat of arms, symbolising strength and movement, while the red and black stripes and antlers represent Württemberg’s traditional crest.
Interestingly, Porsche vehicles did not originally feature a crest at all. Early models simply carried the Porsche name in lettering before the iconic badge was officially introduced.
More than 70 years later, the crest remains a symbol of performance, heritage, engineering, and timeless design, values that continue to define every Porsche on the road today.
